The best New Mexican food going.
If you've ever visited or lived in New Mexico, then you know that this state is the number one state in the Union for chilies. Especially green chilies! There is not a restaurant in the entire state that doesn't have red and green chili on the menu in some form or fashion. One of the best known questions heard throughout New Mexico is "Red or Green?" I have lived in many parts of the state, from Roswell to Albuquerque; from Taos to Espanola and now Santa Fe, and I've most definitely had my fair share of my preferred green chili, but there's a small cafe on the south side of town just off Rodeo Rd that has, in my humble opinion, the very best green chili in the entire state! The name of this wonderous eatery is Over Easy Cafe. Reed, the owner and head chef there has been in the cooking/restaurant business for 30 years now, and it shows! When I first started going to his establishment, the cafe had already been open for a few months. The menu has the usual New Mexico faire with a few items changed up a bit, so I decided to try their sausage breakfast burrito with their green chili on the side. I always get the chili on the side to start with. Trust me, you want to do the same until you know just how hot the chili is! I taste-tested the green chili with a spoon before putting any on my burrito, and was immediately taken with the rich, smoky and robust flavor. On the "heat" scale, it was just above what I call "medium" and it did not try to rip out the back of my throat. I put some in my burrito and I must say it was the best I had ever had. The green chili melded perfectly with the sausage, potato, cheddar cheese and eggs. After I finished this delight, I introduced myself to Reed and asked him where he had come up with his chili. "You like it?" he asked. Indeed I do, I replied, and he said, it had taken him 10 months to get it like that. Wow, not that's some dedication to food! I then told him that to me it was the very best green chili I had tasted in the almost 15 years I had been living in New Mexico. Trust me on this one folks, when you make it to Santa Fe for either the skiing, or the balloon fiesta, or for whatever, you have to come to the Over Easy Cafe and experience this amazing chili! As a total food-aholic and someone who has eaten all over the US and a few countries abroad, I know my food and this is some of the very best! Enjoy and bon appetite! PS: Check out their menu on the link below. I guarantee you'll be drooling. |

Taqueria Del Sol is the place to visit in Decatur, GA. Yes, lines are frequently long; however, it is worth the wait.
